Hotels

Travelodge Plymouth Derriford

9 Howeson Ln, Plymouth PL6 8BD, UK – 0871 559 1839

Functional and comfortable. Not much sound insulation between rooms close to ours though. Could hear more than wanted or expected including passionate encounter around 4.30am. Still they seemed to have a good night.

Friendly and Helpful staff. Lovely clean room. Helpful walking distants from Derriford Hospital but this is why the price is always high.

Travelodge Plymouth Roborough

399 Tavistock Rd, Plymouth PL6 7HB, UK – 0871 559 1840

Very clean hotel with friendly reception staff. Room was very clean and well stocked with shower gel / handwash. Despite being next to the road it was surprisingly quiet in our room and we were able to get very peaceful night's sleep during out stay. The hotel is located quite far from the city center but if like me you drive this is not an issue (especially with the free parking). Overall I highly recommend this hotel, especially if only visiting Plymouth for a short weekend.

Great staff. Perfectly clean. Good size car park. The entrance was covered in snow and ice which I think should of been swept as it was very dangerous to walk on.

Hotel ibis Plymouth

Marsh Mills, Forder Valley, Longbridge Rd, Plymouth PL6 8LR, UK – 01752 601087

Here on business, and sleeping during the day, working at night. Motel style hotel, rooms are dated but clean and comfortable, situated on the very busy A road but windows and double door Do a good job keeping the noise down. Staff are great, friendly and helpful. Breakfast is average, the restaurant food is fine, but if you order pizza just know the £12 you pay is for a Chicago town frozen pizza (nice pizza, but £2.50 in supermarkets). Overall 3 star due to dated decor, an OK breakfast and dinner offering and location out of the centre of city. I didn't pay but reportedly cheap, if very cheap then 4 star is more appropriate. Menu pics included below.

Basic hotel. Surprised I couldn't get poached eggs for breakfast. But it's clean, and the chilli beef for dinner was very nice.

Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

The Jack Rabbit

8-9 Howeson Ln, Plymouth PL6 8BD, UK – 01752 783585

Typically dine here a few times a year, I like that they frequently change the menu here in line with the season. I advise booking a table in advance if dining on a weekend. There is a bar area that it small and is not the best place to come just for a drink during peak hours. Food is always well presented with a varied selection on the menu and fairly priced for what you get. They can also accommodate big parties if booked in advance.

This place has a nice feeling about it. It is not noisy nor rowdy even although children are present, no disrespect to the kids by the way. The staff are pleasant and when you order your meal, it doesn't take forever to come. The meals are well presented too and taste lovely. Also there are plenty of parking places available. Well there was when I last visited it. Well worth a visit with family or couples.

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

Bed & Breakfast Accommodation plus Guesthouses

Roman House

271A Beacon Park Rd, Plymouth PL2 3JP, UK – 01752 426146

Roman House was the ideal B&B for us. We visited Sunday night and had a family funeral to attend the next morning. Mike and Ania were great and let us stay later in the morning. Breakfast was good too!

I cannot commend Ania and Mike enough for the lovely and hassle free time i had when i stayed for a week. The room was spotless and very spacious and the breakfast set me up nicely for the day. They were both very considerate and every whim was catered for. Location was superb for me and i really liked the secure parking. Would definately recommend!

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!
